Austria is absolutely beautiful. The Lord is surprising us every day with different places to see His creation. Today was full of going to the Melk Abbey (Sorry if someone has already posted about this!), where the Chapel was amazing. The sanctuary was plated with 24 karat gold-everything was ornate. The library was the same one Disney used to animate the library in Beauty and the Beast. Some of the manuscripts dating back to the 1000-1100′s. It’s so crazy to see things that have survived for such a long time. The library is filled with books from floor to ceiling. Ironically some of them are fake.

There’s so much to learn here. It was great being with our host families. It gives us so much to learn about, but we are on our own here in Austria.

Today we went to the cathedral in Salzburg. It’s amazing. I can’t believe we are singing there. People came to tears when we sang in our rehearsal today.

And for some reason many Koreans think we are famous…they kept taking pictures of us or getting right in front of us and getting their picture taken.

I’m sure more will come about Salzburg tomorrow!

Hey everyone, we’ve got some video updates for you all!!!

This first video is from Wednesday evening, (6-16-2010) our first day in Europe. We were in Darmstadt, Germany and had a great first day!!
Click here to view the embedded video.

This update was from Friday during the day, just prior to our Rhein Cruise. In this update, we briefly discuss our visit to Rothenburg, a medieval town that we spent some time in on the day before (Thursday).
Click here to view the embedded video.

In more recent news, tonight’s concert was incredible!! We sang through our entire program, and walked outside to chat and greet, but the entire audience remained inside applauding, so we proceeded back in and sang one of our songs for a second time! The whole concert was full of God’s presence and energy, and it was a GREAT way to end our stay in Germany!

As we get our videos edited, we will add them to the Vimeo site, and possibly post them here, but they will likely be several days behind. Sorry for the delay, but we have been very busy making the most of our time here! We will also hopefully put some pictures up soon! Thank you all for your prayers!

In Christ,

Andy Black

Hey everyone!! Sorry for the delay in these updates!! We have had trouble getting internet access, but hopefully we will have more access in days to come for both written updates and videos. I hope this whole typing thing works out alright, as German keyboards have opposite Ys and Zs as American ones, among öther smäll differences!
First of all, here are a few pre-tour videos:

Pre-flight update:
Click here to view the embedded video.

Flight 1 update:
Click here to view the embedded video.

Flight 2 update:
Click here to view the embedded video.

On Friday, the chorale went on a river cruise on the Rhein River, and several students of the chorale put together a fun video about that trip!

Rhein Cruise Video:
Click here to view the embedded video.

On Saturday, we sang our first concert in Oppenheim, Germany in the BEAUTIFUL St. Katharinen church! We sang there again on Sunday morning and then traveled to Leutershausen, Germany, where we sang our second full concert on Sunday evening. That was such an exciting concert from our perspective, as well as from that of the audience. It was such a worship experience, and we were all treated with such grace and generosity. Many students had home-stays with families that did not speak English, which provided a challenging, but awesome opportunity.

Today, June 21, we drove to Probstzella, Germany, where we encountered another exciting circumstance: Half of the chorale is staying in Probstzella which is a town within Former-Eastern Germany, while the other half is staying in a nearby town called Ludwiggstadt, in Western Germany. The people of Probstzella were very excited for our visit because they haven’t had many encounters with Americans. The concert there tonight was a wonderful experience!! They couldn’t have been more gracious!

So far, everything is going VERY smoothly, and the food is incredible!! Schnitzel, anyone? The conversations with hosts have been great so far for Nate and myself, and hopefully I can post about that specifically in the next few days!

We will update you again soon, and more videos will follow!!! Thank you all so much for your support!!! Please continue your prayers!!

In Christ,

Andy Black

Typing this entry from an internet cafe, the first thing you must know is that the keys on this keyboard are moved around a bit! So we’ll do our best to avoid typos. First off, our plane rides went great until a 3 hour delay on our flight prior to leaving from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany! However, there were 43 German exchange students also on our flight, so many of us had the opportunity to share and learn about their experience in America and some German phrases. The hotel we’re staying at in Dermstad is great, and we already hit the pool Some of us also participated in a pick up game of soccer with some locals, and some Polish men who were also at a caged-in field near our hotel. It was a blast to break the language barrier and interact through a sport. Tomorrow we head out to a nearby town which includes some medival aspects, and a highly recommended Christmas store. We will post some video updates tomorrow. So far our 1st dinner was a fantastic combo of delicious bread, chicken, rice, and a fruit desert that looked like the cover of a magazine with raspberries blueberries. We have also done our best to dive into the language, throwing our our best “Danka” and “Guten tag” statements (“thank you” and “good day”). The weather here is awesome, about 70 and sunny during the day, and it cooled off here now that its in the evening. We’ve no major awkward cutlural encounters or language goofs, but I anticipate we’ll have some to report soon Thanks for following us, and let us know any questions or shout outs you’ve got!!

Nate

for the rest of the chorale

They will present concerts in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria. A detailed itinerary can be found here.

The Malone University Chorale

“A tour of this magnitude is one that our students will never forget,” says Director Dave Donelson, Ph.D. “The Chorale has received fantastic invitations to perform in some of the most beautiful churches and cathedrals in all of Europe. One of the highlights of the tour will be a performance on Sunday morning, June 27 at the Salzburg Cathedral. With the Cathedral getting 400 requests a week from choirs all over the world to perform there, it is truly an exciting privilege for the Malone Chorale to receive an invitation to sing at this spectacular venue.” In addition to their concerts, the Chorale will also enjoy many sight-seeing excursions, such as beautiful lakeside villages, the salt mines of Hallstatt (Austria), and the fascinating and historical city of Prague.

Members of the Chorale have been working all year to raise the necessary funds for this tour. Donations are still being accepted. Tax deductable gifts can be mailed to the Fine Arts Office at Malone University.
